DCCI congratulates the newly elected government

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), one of the country’s leading representatives of the private sector, congratulates “Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)” for securing a landslide victory in the 13th National Polls held on 12 February 2026 and on forming the new Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

DCCI believes that this much-anticipated election has enabled the people to elect their chosen representatives, who will help transform Bangladesh into a developed, prosperous and democratic nation through capable leadership. In this regard, DCCI urges the newly elected government to take effective and priority-based measures for quick economic recovery and ensure their swift implementation.

Amid the ongoing global geopolitical uncertainties-particularly, reciprocal tariff measures imposed by the United States along with various domestic challenges, local economic activities have significantly disrupted. It is evident that Bangladesh has not been able to achieve significant progress in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) over a prolonged period. At the same time, export-oriented sectors have not shown any significant progress. However, the SME sector has been the most adversely affected, leading to reduced employment opportunities at the marginal level and disruptions across the overall manufacturing ecosystem. As a result, the entrepreneurs are facing difficulties in continuing their business operation.

Furthermore, the recent unexpected deterioration in law-and-order situation has discouraged both local and foreign investors from making fresh investments. Lack of coordination in port operations and management, disruptions in implementing NBR’s reform initiatives, uncertainty in energy supply to industries, high interest rates, contractionary monetary policy, prolonged loan processing procedures and the overall lack of necessary policy support have negatively impacted the private sector.

DCCI believes that there is no alternative to the role of elected representatives in addressing these challenges and taking effective measures to overcome them promptly. To keep the national economy vibrant and resilient, Dhaka Chamber earnestly urges the newly elected government to remove the existing constraints in the country’s industrial and commercial sectors on an urgent basis. DCCI would like to work closely with the Government for better economic development of the country.
